WEST COLUMBIA CHURCH OF CHRISTSOUTH CAROLINA

WANTED: Full Time Evangelist to: 1) Help us preach God's word to the lost so they might be added to the Lord’s church and 2) Preach God's word to the church so we might grow in the fullness of Christ (Eph 4:11-13) to the intent that all might be presented to our Lord one day, holy and without blemish, according to His will.   We are an established, self supporting, but not self centered, congregation of 100+ active souls of mixed ages and races, with elders and deacons, all seeking to do all the Lord’s will according to his word.   We meet in a recently renovated building we own, located on a major highway (US #1) near the center of South Carolina’s state capital with universities, a big military base and lots of friendly, but lost people.   Parsonage (3 BR, 2 Bath, 1200 sq ft, large fenced in back yard) with utilities provided adjacent to church building.   Our QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PROSPECTIVE MINISTERS (below) should give you an idea of our soundness.   Salary: $30-40K plus parsonage, utilities and moving expenses.   Further information available at www.WestColumbiaChurchOfChrist.org.

The KJV is preferred for public use in preaching and teaching.   A degree is preferred, but not required.    A married man is preferred, but not required.

What is required is: 1) A thorough knowledge of God's word; 2) A complete conviction that the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation to all men, and 3) A zeal for reaching, preaching and teaching that Gospel to the lost.   Evidence of such will be required.

If you are interested please fill out our QUESTIONNAIRE and send it to us, along with a resume of your experience, training and personal information, and a cassette tape of some lessons you've presented, if available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) TO LEAD IN EVANGELISM: To take the lead in setting up bible studies to teach the lost and members how to do it.

2) TO PREACH God's word at the Sunday morning and evening assemblies.

3) TO TEACH a bible class Wednesday evening.

4) TO LEAD IN VISITATION

5) TO BE SUBJECT TO THE CHURCH LEADERSHIP

6) COUNSELING is the work of the elders, not the minister*.

7) BENEVOLENCE is a work of the church, not the minister*.

(* not to limit the evangelist as an individual member of the congregation.)

We want our Evangelist to be a spark plug for personal work and evangelism to help us do the work of the church.   The church wants to support a man, with his family, who has the zeal, desire, training, experience and aptitude to preach and teach the word:   1) To the lost, that they might be added to the church and  2) Those in the church, that they would grow spiritually: in faith, zeal and love and in the ability to reach and teach others.

The congregation wants to grow spiritually in the image of our Lord and numerically by converting the lost.

Attendance has been averaging over 100 at Sunday AM worship assembly, 80 on Wednesday and Sunday evening assemblies and 60 at Sunday AM bible study.   The Elders are working to get those numbers equal and want help from an Evangelist to make them grow.

Spiritual growth will be encouraged by the teaching and lessons brought by the Evangelist and other members of the congregation.   Numerical growth will be encouraged by teaching the gospel to non-members in individual, or small group settings.   A major need is to have someone available full time to follow-up with visitors and contacts and to convert them to being disciples of our Lord.    This requires knowledge of God's word, zeal, and the ability to meet with people and convince them to follow the scripture (2 Tim 2:24).

The congregation wants to help by supporting the Evangelist, getting contacts and assisting in bible studies.  The congregation wants to grow in its ability to teach the lost. (2 Tim 2:2)

Softball teams, Easter egg hunts, Christmas plays, hand clapping, praise teams, social gospel, etc. are not scripturally authorized and thus not practiced here.  The Gospel of Christ is all that is necessary to attract people to, and keep people in the Lord's church.   But with scriptural authority, we believe it is expedient to cooperate with other congregations in the Lord’s work as we have opportunity and ability, and to eat common meals together, separate from the Lord's Supper, at the building.

The KJV is preferred for public use in preaching and teaching.

If you are interested please fill out our QUESTIONNAIRE and send it to us, along with your resume and a cassette tape of some lessons you've presented, if available.

WEST COLUMBIA CHURCH OF CHRIST
QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PROSPECTIVE MINISTERS
PLEASE ANSWER YES or NO

NAME: ______________________________________________

If you think a question should be reworded, reword it, explaining your reasoning if you wish and then give a Yes/No.  We'll save the explanations and discussions for face to face interviews.

1.      Is the Bible inspired of God, word by word and infallible?

2.      Does the Holy Spirit direct us through, not separate from, the Word?

3.      Have miraculous gifts ceased?

4.      Is the Lord’s church distinctive and therefore not in fellowship with denominations?

5.      Are faith, repentance, confession that Jesus is the Son of God, baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins, and faithfulness afterwards all necessary for salvation?

6.      In matters of faith, doctrine and practice in the church of God, must our sole source and standard of authority be the Bible?

7.      Are congregations of the church of our Lord autonomous, having the right to be self-governed in matters of opinion or expediency?

8.      Do you believe that God's marriage law requires that one man be married to one woman for the duration of a lifetime;   The only exception to this law being divorce because of fornication;   And any one that divorces, except on the basis of their spouse’s sexual immorality, and marries again is living in adultery as long as that relationship continues?

9.      Is it sinful to use mechanical instruments of music in worship assemblies of the Lord’s church?

10. Is the woman’s role in the church one of submission, such that it would be wrong and shameful for her to exercise authority over the man?

11. Does God's plan for church organization call for elders to be the shepherds with all members of the congregation, including deacons, evangelist(s), and teachers, under their oversight?

12. Are congregations commanded by God to withdraw fellowship from members who walk disorderly?

13. Is there scriptural authority (command, example or inference) for different congregations of the Lord’s church to cooperate financially in efforts to spread the gospel or assist in benevolent work?

14. Is there scriptural authority for a congregation of the Lord's church to eat meals together in the church building, separate from the Lord’s Supper, and to have facilities to support that?
