Ladies Day 2008

CLIMBING TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN

Well represented!

A little over a year ago, in the winter of 2007, members of the West Columbia "Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Class" discussed their desire to have a spring "Ladies Day" for our spiritual growth, for fellowship with other Christian women, and to get our ladies more involved in the work of the Lord. The consensus was, "If we wanted to have a Ladies Day we had better get busy!"

A special meeting was called and all of the ladies of the church were encouraged to come for the discussion. One of the first items to be discussed was a theme for our ladies day. Each person was encouraged to submit a theme that would provide a memorable and spiritual lesson for all. One of our young ladies made copies of the ideas in a format that could be voted upon. The theme, "Climbing to the top of the Mountain" was finally chosen with the hopes of encouraging each lady to strive to reach that mountain top experience of heaven some day, helping others along the way also.

The total undertaking was divided up into separate areas: Finding a speaker, program and theme, advertisements, nursery, favors and door prizes, registration, housing, ice breakers, decorations, and food preparation. Program coordinators were decided upon by all, and each group did a marvelous job with their designated tasks. Meetings were held on a weekly basis to be sure all areas were progressing along. Advertisements went out to all area congregations so that their ladies would know of our Ladies Day plans. Nursery arrangements were made by some to help young mothers settle their children in and allow them to enjoy the day ahead. Favors and door prizes were beautifully prepared. Professional looking programs and lovely flower-covered pins were made for each of our visitors. Our fellowship hall was extremely elegant with beautiful flower arrangements and decorated bulletin boards. The salad plates, drinks and desserts were delicious and beautifully prepared.

But the spiritual feast was even better! Our speaker, Lil Burton, from Concord, North Carolina, did an excellent job with our theme. Lil has a wonderful background of service for the Lord and His church and has served for 46 years in the Concord, NC area. Her career as an elementary school teacher has made her very able to preside over God's desire for women to "band together" to study God's word, to teach the younger women and children, and to give aid to the men of the church.

We had a good number of ladies attend our first Ladies Day event and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to each one of them. We are all better for having participated.

Like all things, preparation is needed!

Sometimes we're compassed about ...

We can't do it alone ...

They also serve who only stand and wash.

Not exactly a Scout camping meal,

Climb to the Top of the Mountain - together!
